This screening forms a part of the series on Colonizing Violence and the Redemptive Power of Palestinian Resistance.

Kafr Qasem is a documentary that narrates the events of the Israeli atrociites committed in 1956. The massacre of Kafr Qasem was not an isolated or anomalous incident in Palestine, the region or the world. It occurred against the backdrop of anti-colonial struggles in the Arab world, particularly as France was escalating its repression in Algeria, which was waging a valiant fight for independence. Then, France was at the cross-roads of colonial expansion and exportation. Now, one can argue, Israel, as a colonial agent, is fulfilling that role, exporting tools of violence, repression, colonization from Palestine to Africa and South America.

Brahim Rouabeh is co-founder and former president of the UK-based Algeria Solidarity Campaign. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies in Political Science at the City University of New York. His work focuses on postcolonial/de-colonial theory, North African politics, neoliberalism and postcolonial state-formation, and identity issues in International Relations. His writings have appeared in the Review of African Political Economy (RoAPE), Middle East Law and Governance(MELG), OpenDemocracy, Viewpoint and Jadaliyya.
