"Adam Maalouf and Future Tribe - Where the Ancient meets the Modern"

As a specialist in pantam (handpan), cello and percussion from around the world, Adam Maalouf's unique interpretation of world music is channeled through genre-bending compositions for solo and ensembles. His ensemble, Future Tribe, brings together global instrumentalists playing Indian tabla, Arabic vocals, Bansuri flute, Middle Eastern percussion, guitar, trumpet, 'oud and nay. Taking listeners somewhere new, Future Tribe's music is found where the modern meets the ancient, where the pantam meets ancient or traditional styles of music from around the globe.

About the Artist

Adam Maalouf, a dedicated music student, has travelled through Europe, India and the Middle East to study under renowned percussion masters such as Anindo Chatterjee, Glen Velez, River Guerguerian, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Michael Burritt and Rohan Krishnamurthy. In 2013, Adam received his degree in percussion performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

He has performed in venues across the world including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, MoMa, St. Basil's Cathedral, Tanglewood, Wolf Trap, The BANFF Center and Austin City Limits as well as with ensembles such as the Brooklyn Raga Massive, Pink Martini and the National Arab Orchestra.

As a teacher, Adam regularly hosts workshops and retreats in New York and North Carolina, where he co-founded the Asheville Percussion Festival with River Guerguerian.
