Mohamed Abdel-Wahhab was one of the most influential singers and composers in Egypt and the Arab world in the 20th century. He was both a master of the traditional Tarab style, and an innovator who fused Arabic music with Jazz, Western Classical, and Latin music, experimenting with new instruments and techniques. He not only composed for himself, but wrote many songs for nearly every other singer in Egypt in the mid 20th century, including Umm Kulthum, Warda, Abdel-halim Hafez, Fayza Ahmed, Layla Murad, Sabah, and many others, creating a legacy that is one of the major pillars of the Arabic music tradition today. Youssef Kassab and Zikrayat pay tribute to this great master with a concert exclusively featuring songs composed and sung by Mohamed Abdel-Wahhab, and instrumental pieces composed by him.

Originally from Damascus, Syria, Youssef Kassab began learning the oud and studying voice with his uncle at an early age. He continued his studies at the Damascus Conservatory, specializing in qanun (zither) and classical Arabic music vocal repertoire. There he recorded and performed with the Syrian Radio Orchestra as a vocalist.

In 1970 he moved to New York, and in 1982 joined the Near Eastern Music Ensemble as principal vocalist, where he began 40 years of performance in concerts and festivals throughout the United States and Central America. Youssef Kassab is one of the master performers of classical forms such as the Arabic Muwashshahat (classical Arabic/Andalusian vocal music), Al-Qudud Al-Halabiyya (traditional vocal repertoire from Aleppo, Syria), and 19th and early 20th century Egyptian vocal music.

, led by violinist, composer and vocalist Sami Abu Shumays, and dancer Dameshe Shumays, featuring vocalists Salma Habib and Salah Rajab and a talented lineup of acoustic instrumentalists and Egyptian-style dancers, is a New York City-based Arabic music and dance group unique in presenting the classical and dance repertories of the Arab World side-by-side. Zikrayat places a special emphasis on repertory from the "Golden Age" of Egyptian cinema, especially from the 1940's 50's and 60's, and has developed a multi-media show featuring film clips from the period synchronized with live music and dance performances.
